Honey needs his own blog

June 24, 2007 at 9:56 pm (God Things)

Again, for the second time, I am inspired to report yet another communion meditation delivered by The Honey.  He’d given one on Father’s Day. Then, last night at Pastor Woodshop’s house, Pastor asked Honey to fill in for him.

Our Sunday morning study group is working on the last two chapters of Total Forgiveness.  Please go look.  During the discussion concerning forgiving oneself, it was pointed out that sometimes we need to distract ourselves from beating ourselves up.  Like the time I was papering the master bedroom years ago all by myself.  Read the rest of this entry »

Herb

June 17, 2007 at 6:28 pm (Heritage, Nostalgia)

Being Father’s Day, it’s a natural assumption that I would honor my dad, Russel Murphy, known to many as Poppy.  I’ve written about Dad before, mentioned him in passing, and have not run out of material yet.  But today, ol’ Pop will step aside. Read the rest of this entry »

It didn’t used to be this hard

June 16, 2007 at 10:18 pm (Houseaches)

Since our first house purchase in 1973 I have papered, painted, ripped off paper and re-papered, re-bordered, more than 3 times per room.

Why is this seemingly simple kitchen project under way so tough?  Honey just reminded me I’m older than I used to be.  A pox on him. Read the rest of this entry »

Friday of Dad’s Day weekend

June 16, 2007 at 2:14 am (Celebrations)

As usual on a Friday, we are sedentary.  Honey received his Father’s Day gift from me in the mail, a book called Terry Tales, a history of Litchfield, MN, Honey’s hometown. He’s chuckling, the sofa is jiggling.  I guess it’s a big success. Read the rest of this entry »

Flag Day

June 14, 2007 at 11:38 am (Celebrations, Heritage)

Eight days ago was D-Day. Honey asked his group of elders at a meeting if they knew what June 6th was.  Two younger men didn’t know.  They were blank.  Why? Read the rest of this entry »

Survival of the innocent

June 13, 2007 at 12:28 am (Just for fun)

Julie’s report of current events sort of stole my thunder but this email forward speaks to mankind’s basic common sense and dumb luck.

Those Born 1930-1979  (and anyone born into the Brock lineage)

READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON’T READ ANYTHING ELSE—VERY WELL STATED TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s!! Read the rest of this entry »

How do we give smart?

June 11, 2007 at 8:53 pm (Discovery, History, Lessons, Politics)

Whatever ravenous sabertoothed bug I consumed, it is gone — hopefully.  Where it had been just plain hurts.  I came home.  Since the recovery process is doing well with sitting instead of laying down, I visit my blog sites and report a finding here from Stones Cry Out.

Remember the multi-talented We Are the World recording that launched a money raising project to feed the poor in Africa?  Read the rest of this entry »

1965

June 9, 2007 at 4:13 pm (Politics)

In case you didn’t know I am a bright red conservative, plus what Boortz calls a Turbo Fundie, you will go into a frenzied AARGGH mode if you click on my rant link, Current Balance, so proceed with eyes open.  I hope you click on it.  Our history is our future.

Here’s the one liner:

The current author of the recently bludgeoned amnesty bill disguised as a comprehensive immigration control bill is the same author of the 1965 amnesty bill and I think everyone needs to check out what he had to say about it then.  This man will never change his spots and he’s saying the same thing now as he did then.

Now.  I have 4 more seams to mud and will sand yesterday’s.  If I ever figure out how to post thumbnail pictures instead of mongo close-ups, I may be able to show you what wallpaper I pick out …… or …… something more interesting.

Have a nice day.

Early weekend

June 8, 2007 at 2:01 am (Just hangin' around)

I took the Friday before Memorial Day off and the Tuesday after creating a 4 day work week, then a 3 day work week.  Somehow I couldn’t face a 5 day just yet, so I took off Friday of this week to get that kitchen painted, a perfect opportunity to just hang around and graze.

As far as the project is going, it’s only Thursday evening and I am busy blogging, thank you very much.

I’ve cut the corner strips, dragged in the 15 ton bucket of joint mud, I think I know where the trowel is, the blue tape is in the dining room, the seam tape is …………….. oh, there it is by the phone!

I sound more helpless than I really am.  I hate that wall board pattern just badly enough to create and use up a 3 day weekend at least working ON it if not completing it in one round.

The rest of the evening involves a good report on the computer.  I braved the internet options option, clicked on three boxes that started with “ignore” that made no sense to me and voila, the font sizes went normal instead of being big enough to be easily seen by the legally blind; they were that huge.  Secondly, I went back into the display control panel and clicked on something that said “normal” and increased another font in the selected items from 8 to 9.  Okay.  Fonts are good now.

I still don’t have color background and many images.  All my wizard friends are slammed for time.  Evidently, I am the first person to lose color and images on a brand new computer.  They’ve all said something like “huh?”

Maybe I’d better concentrate on covering up a wall pattern that narrowly escaped the 70’s before I go mad, mad, I tell you!
